And who’s driving … it?

To invent an aircraft is nothing.

To build one is little. To test it is everything.

German Aerospace Center – Research on Autonomous Driving

Autonomous driving refers to the operation of vehicles without human intervention. Already today, such vehicles can independently detect obstacles and maneuver around them. Semi-autonomous systems are already in use in agriculture, mining, public transport, and even on highways.

Within the ForschungRegion Braunschweig, the German Aerospace Center (DLR) is conducting research on autonomous driving. Central research topics include:

  • Development of technologies for detecting and processing environmental information, such as sensors and cameras that monitor the vehicle’s surroundings
  • Improvement of algorithms and methods for decision-making and vehicle control
