Braunschweig Successful at Maker Festival

Once again this year, Braunschweig receives an award from the Maker Festival! Wilhelm-Gymnasium impressed with its ‘Lost and Found’ hack in the Design category.

In the project ‘Make Your School – Your Idea Workshop’, students actively shape their school by trying out programming, tinkering, and crafting during creative hack days. In teams, they develop their own solutions to self-observed problems, supported by mentors as well as digital and electronic tools. Finally, they present their prototypes, which provides new impetus for daily school life.

Lost headphones, missing lunchbox, vanished sweater? In the traditional lost and found office, items pile up while owners often search for them in vain. The WG Lost and Found team has developed a digital, AI-supported lost and found office for this purpose. Found items can be uploaded via a form; a moderation AI checks images and text. Students can specifically search for their items via voice input or a search field. If there is no match, the system saves the request for three months and notifies them by email if the lost item appears. In the future, the system is to be integrated into the IServ school platform and be usable in multiple languages.

Since 2020/21, ForschungRegion Braunschweig e.V. and Haus Wissenschaft have been coordinating the hack days in the Braunschweig region as a network hub. As part of the project, three-day hack days will be organized and conducted at four schools in the Braunschweig region during the 2024/25 school year.

‘Make Your School – Your Idea Workshop’ is a project by Wissenschaft im Dialog, funded by the Klaus Tschira Foundation. The Braunschweig network hub is supported by EWE Armaturen.
