On January 14, 2025, Prof. Dr. Folkhard Isermeyer passed away at the age of 67. He served as Chairman of the Board of ForschungRegion Braunschweig e.V. from November 2020 to December 2024.

As Chairman of the Board, Folkhard Isermeyer’s actions were motivated by the deep conviction that mediating research results would generate solutions for a sustainable living environment. He saw the greatest strength in the cooperation and networking of various actors and disciplines. This was especially true for our region, which, as a native of Braunschweig, was particularly close to his heart. Under his leadership, the successful format “Salon der Wissenschaft” was established, which enables direct exchange between local researchers and society in an informal atmosphere.

With the same dedication, Folkhard Isermeyer was committed to promoting young talents in Braunschweig and the region. This was evident, for example, in his support of the Make Your School project, which playfully introduces the MINT field as an experimental laboratory.

Particularly memorable in all his work, in addition to his professional competence, is the unparalleled quality of personal interaction. He was not only an outstanding scientist, but also a person who inspired with empathy and warmth and always had an open ear for all sides. Through his diplomatic nature, he always managed to build a bridge between science, society and practice.

The Board of ForschungRegion Braunschweig e.V. will cherish his memory. His successor as of January 1 is the President of TU Braunschweig, Professor Dr. Angela Ittel.
