Our latest episode is all about wild bees – just in time for spring! At the Thünen Institute, they are being closely examined. Dr. Wiebke Sickel and Dr. Frank Sommerlandt are working on Germany’s first nationwide wild bee monitoring program to learn more about the status of wild bees in this country. Unlike honeybees, which are typically cared for by beekeepers, the living conditions of wild bees are still largely unexplored.
Influencing factors such as climate change or land sealing have direct impacts on the lives of wild bees. This is where the wild bee monitoring program comes in: Through the data collected over a longer period, new insights are hoped for regarding the status and changes of wild bees – which also include bumblebees. Learn how the data is collected and what each individual can do to support wild bees in the new episode.
