If it can’t be reused, repaired, rebuilt, refurbished, redesigned, resold, recycled, or composted, then it should be restricted, redesigned, or removed from production.

Technische Universität Clausthal – Research for a Sustainable Circular Economy
In times of climate change, Technische Universität Clausthal (TU Clausthal) is focusing on a modern energy and resource supply: moving away from the throwaway society and towards a sustainable circular economy.
This holistic approach not only addresses technical challenges but also integrates behavioral science and economic perspectives.

The three dimensions of sustainability – environment, society, and economy – are crucial for realizing the energy and resource transition, as well as the broader transformation of society. At TU Clausthal, the circular economy is a guiding theme across research, teaching, and knowledge transfer, providing a unifying framework for innovation. This approach extends into the region as well: in 2022, South-East Lower Saxony became part of the EU’s Circular Cities and Regions Initiative.
