Attention bio teachers in Braunschweig and the surrounding area, from November 4-7 you have the opportunity to book a free two-hour interactive learning experience with 20-member school classes in the Kühn&Klug Wissensladen in downtown Braunschweig (Waisenhausdamm 8). Between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, up to three time slots of 2 hours each are available, which can be booked in advance online via an appointment scheduler. Alternatively, you can contact the organization team by email at kuehn-klug@julius-kuehn.de
Background: As the birthday of the important “plant doctor” Julius Kühn will be the 200th time in autumn 2025, the Julius Kühn Institute (JKI) of the same name invites school classes with their teachers as well as the interested public to its first temporary Kühn&Klug Wissensladen in downtown Braunschweig. Together with researchers from the Federal Research Institute for Cultivated Plants, the “worm worlds among us” will be explored. The soil under our feet is a living microcosm that provides plants with important nutrients and is also a habitat for tiny nematodes. Among them are helpful species but also those that harm our crops and threaten harvests.
On Friday 7.11./2-8 p.m. and Saturday 8.11./10 a.m.-7 p.m. the store is open to the general public. On 7.11. at 6 p.m. there will be the whimsical after-work talk “The good, the bad and the ugly: Tiny worms with great effect“. On Saturday 8.11./4 p.m. the final lecture “With Julius Kühn on the worm“ at the finissage will be about the discovery of nematodes as triggers of plant diseases. Of course, we also welcome interested walk-in customers who stop by Waisenhausdamm 8 from 4-6.11. between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
