Resistance Breakers
Antibiotic-resistant bacteria are one of the greatest threats to global health and the fight against infectious diseases.

Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research – Tackling Resistant Bacteria
The rise of resistant bacteria, known as antibiotic resistance, poses one of the biggest challenges in modern healthcare. Developing new antibiotics is one of the key strategies to counter these pathogens. Yet, finding and approving such drugs is complex and often takes many years.
The Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) in Braunschweig is working on a research project focused on the development of new antibiotics to combat multi-resistant bacteria. HZI scientists rely on innovative methods and technologies to quickly and effectively identify new active compounds.

They are so small that we cannot see them with the naked eye. Yet, they are all around us: bacteria. These tiny organisms can cause serious illness. However, they can also strengthen our immune system. Isabell Ramming tells us what fruits and vegetables have to do with this and how ‘bad’ bacteria can help detect diseases. She is a doctoral candidate at the Robert Koch Institute and researches EHEC bacteria. With Emilian, Jacob, Julius, Leni, and Nils.
A podcast from the House of Science Braunschweig.
