To connect knowledge, drive sustainable innovation, and strengthen Braunschweig’s position as a leading hub of science, 27 institutions came together in 2004 to form ForschungRegion Braunschweig e.V. This unique alliance unites universities, federal research institutes, Helmholtz and Fraunhofer Institutes, Leibniz Association research centers, museums, libraries, Braunschweig Hospital, and other renowned institutions whose research enjoys international recognition.

The Region

The Braunschweig region has the highest “density of scientists” in Europe, with 4% of all employees working in research. More than 19,000 people are employed within the institutions of ForschungRegion, complemented by over 20,000 employees in industrial research facilities. With a wide range of internationally renowned research centers, the region possesses a science-driven innovation potential that is second to none. Networking among institutions and close cooperation with industry create synergies for new value chains, products, and production methods.

Goals and Tasks

Together, we aim to further strengthen Braunschweig’s leading position as a science and business region and increase its visibility both nationally and internationally. The core mission of ForschungRegion Braunschweig is to strategically advance the scientific foundation of its enormous future potential and, through new ideas for regional and international clusters, sustainably foster value creation, growth, and employment.

Board

The Executive Board of ForschungRegion Braunschweig e.V. is composed of elected representatives from the member institutions of the association and is elected every two years.
