On Wednesday, June 18, 2025, the Salon of Science once again invited visitors to engage in direct conversations with scientists from the Braunschweig region. Approximately 30 scientists from various institutions of the ForschungRegion Braunschweig e.V. presented their topics and answered questions from curious participants. The TRAFO Hub became a vibrant place for exchange between the urban community and research – exciting, accessible, and diverse.
Around 120 visitors took the opportunity to discuss individual questions and interests with the researchers in personal one-on-one table discussions. At the same time, other participants were able to listen to the presentations via headphones and gain new perspectives outside at the beer tables on a mild summer evening.
The evening concluded with lively discussions and exchanges in a pleasant atmosphere – an inspiring evening that demonstrates how vibrant and relevant science is in and for our society.
In the run-up to the event, Prof. Dr. Angela Ittel, Chairwoman of ForschungRegion Braunschweig e. V., emphasized the importance of such formats, stating: “The future of science lies in cooperation – across disciplines, institutions, and national borders. Especially in a time when international funding is being cut, anti-science tendencies are increasing, and exchange is being restricted, we in Braunschweig are sending a clear signal: With formats such as the Salon of Science, we are opening up spaces for encounter, curiosity, and collaboration. Because research needs trust, diversity, and open communication – within science as well as with society.”
The event is jointly organized by the ForschungRegion Braunschweig e. V. and the municipal Department of Culture and Science. The innovative event format was developed and implemented by the Haus der Wissenschaft in Braunschweig.
