Das Helmholtz-Zentrum für Infektionsforschung (HZI) in Braunschweig betreibt als Mitglied der
Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft Spitzenforschung im Bereich der Infektionskrankheiten. Unsere
Wissenschaftler_innen entwickeln innovative Strategien, um Infektionskrankheiten schneller und
wirksamer bekämpfen zu können – mit dem Ziel, neue Ansätze zur Prävention, Diagnose und Therapie zu schaffen.
Im Rahmen des neu etablierten Programmes HUMAN fördern wir die Laufbahn außergewöhnlicher Expert_innen, die mit ihrer Forschung helfen, das komplexe Zusammenspiel von Menschen und infektiösen Krankheitserregern besser zu verstehen.
Zur Unterstützung dieses Programmes sowie weiterer strategischer Initiativen des HZI suchen wir eine engagierte und erfahrene Persönlichkeit als Fundraiser_in.
Die Position ist zentral im Bereich der wissenschaftlichen Geschäftsführung angesiedelt und wird durch eine Assistenz unterstützt. Eine enge Zusammenarbeit mit der Strategieabteilung (zuständig für das Alumni-Programm), der Presse- und Kommunikationsabteilung, dem HZI-Förderverein sowie dem Research Support Office ist zentraler Bestandteil der Tätigkeit.
Ihre Aufgaben:
▪ Entwicklung und Umsetzung einer zielgerichteten Fundraising-Strategie mit Fokus auf
Großspenden
▪ Identifikation, Ansprache und Pflege von Beziehungen zu potenziellen Spender_innen,
Stiftungen und Unternehmen
▪ Aufbau und Betreuung eines Netzwerks von Fördernden und philanthropischen Partner_innen
▪ Vorbereitung und Begleitung von Verhandlungen und Vertragsabschlüssen
▪ Zusammenarbeit mit Wissenschaftler_innen und Kommunikationsteams bei der Erstellung von
Förderanträgen, Präsentationen und Informationsmaterialien
▪ Organisation und Durchführung exklusiver Events und persönlicher Gespräche zur
Spender_innenbindung
Ihr Profil:
▪ Abgeschlossenes wissenschaftlichen Hochschulstudium, idealerweise in den Bereichen
Lebenswissenschaften, Wirtschaft, Kommunikation, oder vergleichbar
▪ Mehrjährige Erfahrung im Fundraising, insbesondere im Bereich Großspenden oder direkt
transferierbare Erfahrung, wie z.B. Key Account Management oder Private Wealth
Management
▪ Ausgeprägte Kommunikations- und Verhandlungsstärke sowie überzeugendes Auftreten
▪ Strategisches Denken und eigenverantwortliche, zielorientierte Arbeitsweise

Join us to advance AI-driven mechanistic modeling and simulation, integrating dynamic systems
theory and explainable AI to unlock deeper insights into biological systems and accelerate innovations in health research. Alternatively, you will help us to advance computational network sciences and AI for deeper, explainable insights into biological systems, driving innovations that will shape the future of infection biology.
The groups will be embedded within the vibrant scientific environment of the Braunschweig Integrated Centre of Systems Biology (BRICS) and is part of the Lower Saxony Center for Artificial Intelligence and Causal Methods in Medicine (CAIMed; www.caimed.de), providing exceptional opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration.
Overview Positions:
1. AI-supported Mechanistic Mathematical Modelling and Simulation
You will pioneer advanced AI integration into mechanistic modelling and simulation. Your group will work on:
▪ Lifecycle-structure discovery and model conception
▪ Calibration and data assimilation
▪ Uncertainty quantification
▪ Surrogate and operator learning to accelerate simulation
▪ Optimal experimental design
▪ Model-based control/decision support
▪ Applications with a focus on biological systems, infection, and health
2. Computational Network Sciences and AI for Infection Biology and Health
You will develop innovative, AI-driven research programs that combine:
▪ Network theory and AI
▪ Mechanistic mathematical modeling
▪ Reconstruction, analysis, and prediction of complex biological network behaviour
These positions include strong emphases on emergent behaviour, modularity, and
biological/health applications.
Requirements:
You are a highly qualified junior scientist holding a PhD. Postdoctoral training and early-stage
independent research are welcome, but we will also consider outstanding applicants immediately after their PhD.
▪ PhD in one of the following fields (depending on the focus area):
o Applied mathematics, computer science, engineering, physics
o Computational biology, bioinformatics, systems biology
▪ Proven expertise in:
o Mechanistic modelling (ODE/PDE), agent-based models
o Mathematical analysis of biological systems and networks
o AI/ML applications in modelling, simulation, and network analysis
▪ Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:
o Hybrid modelling, neural differential equations, or physics-informed neural networks
o Equation discovery
o Bayesian inference/uncertainty quantification
o Surrogate modeling/operator learning
▪ Strong theoretical understanding of sub-network dynamics, modularity, and system behaviour
▪ Programming proficiency: Python, Julia, MATLAB, R, or C++
